Making music, using turn tables with records, and most importantly entertainment at dances, events, parties, etc., is considered a hobby that requires you to have mad music skillz. The only knock is that people who are Disk Jockey's tend to be labeled as hoodlums or thugs. That's not true just a stereotype because there are regular DJ's that do what they have to do to pay the bills.
